Choosing The Right Lawyer For Your Case
A great way to find a lawyer is to ask for referrals from lawyer you already know. You can also ask friends and family members who have faced the same problems and dilemmas. Ask a lot of questions before you hire someone to get a feel of what type of lawyer would be working for you.
- Talk to friends and family for lawyers they would recommend or avoid. If you have worked with lawyers before, contact them also and ask recommendations from them as well. Be honest up front about your situation so they'll know what they would be dealing with.
- Make a list of what you are looking for in a lawyer. Male or female lawyer? Young or old? Would you like a settlement or would you fight to the end? Would you prefer a lawyer who charges by the hour or charges a flat fee?
- There are some lawyers who offer free initial consultations. It is advisable to meet with a few lawyers to get an idea of how they would approach your case.
- Ask them questions before hiring them. What will the fee be? What costs will you be expected to pay, such as copying, faxing and postage? What kind of outcome does he or she expect? How often will he be in contact? If he is not available, will there be someone else who can handle emergencies and urgent questions?
